Stephen Curry in Manila

“Sometimes people make it seem like you have to have certain prerequisites or a crazy life story in order to be successful in this world. But the truth is you really don’t. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what you have or don’t have, what you lack or what you have too much of, but all you need to have is faith in God, an undying passion for what you do and what you choose to do in this life, and a relentless drive and the will to do whatever it takes to be successful in whatever you put your mind to.” – Stephen Curry

September 5, 2015 was a big day for us all Stephen Curry fans (yeah call it bandwagon lol). He arrived in Manila last Saturday, as part of his Under Armour Asian tour. I was very happy that day, I was able to see in the flesh the reigning NBA MVP – a big thank you to my cousin Joyce for sharing one of her precious tickets.

After his press con in Makati in the morning, Curry already headed to the main event in MOA Arena, where thousands of fans waiting to see him for the first time. His entrance during the show was very delight, as most of us know, he’s really a natural crowd pleaser. He even did the popular “Nae Nae dance” that he learned from her daughter, Riley. He was very cool and spontaneous with the crowd that he would even go on one section of the court and say hi or take selfies with the fans. Those lucky audience seating the Lower Box and Patron areas got some UA items and a signature from him. Part of the main event was giving some dribbling and shooting skills session to the lucky-30 selected youths – all wearing the UA Curry 2(jealous here).

Aside from the almost 3-hour basketball workout, he also spoke about his personal experience and passion. When he was asked what advice he can share to the Gilas team and other aspiring basketball devotees, he just simply said – “you cannot measure this” (pointing to his heart).

“A man of faith”, I think that’s one of the main reasons why he captured the hearts of most of his Filipino fans aside from his mastery and dominance in the basketball court. He’s the man who epitomizes passion, humility, hard work and excellence, and a role model especially to the kids.

To wrap up the event, hereunder are the photos and video taken during the Under Armour Road Show Manila: (Photo and vid credits to my friend: Ma.Sybil Gamil and Nhowie)

  1. Not really a fan of basketball (but my boyfriend has been one since childhood) so I knew about Steph Curry through him. Although not much of a fan, I admire him because of his faith in God and his daughter just makes me smile so much! I think we need more people with that kind of faith, not only in sports, but in other fields as well. You’re very fortunate to have been there, Kuya! 🙂
